My Dog is a Clepto & My Daughter might be a Ghost
Topic: Samantha n Company

Ok, we have a nice huge yard.  Huge actually is an understatement - essentially we have a farm surrounding us.  But... I'm speaking about my front yard area here.  Daily, the front yard seems to be littered with "stuff".  Not my "stuff" but other peoples "stuff" that my 9 mo old German Shepherd, Ruby, gathers from throughout the neighborhood.  So far I have found, a pair of someones leather cowboy boots, a plastic mug from DollyWood, a paint roller, a small lap type blanket and interestingly enough, a few pumpkins, which must had been taken off the neighbors porch.  (How did she get her jaw around these pumpkins? I'll never know - but she did it).  I get very annoyed, every other day or so, when I have to go picking up her collections of goodies because my yard looks so messy.  Yesterday was my breaking point.  My dog needs counseling!  I looked out the window at just the perfect time, here comes Ruby,  trotting across the road with someones UPS package in her mouth!  I died and then LMAO - I just couldn't believe it.  Needless to say I need a support group of some kind, please help!

And another thing....

I'm not really a very religious person.  Spritual, yes, but I don't go to church or anything like that.  My daughter lives the same way.  I was raised Catholic and her Dad was raised Southern Baptist.  Samantha is not quite sure what she wants to be, if anything.  We happen to live smack dab in the middle of the bible belt, which hasn't much concerned me, to each his own, but apparently my daughter had a recent interesting conversation with a few of the girls at school.  She came home, quite amused at the situation and told me all about it.

It kind of went like this:

Friend:  What religion are you?

Daughter:  I'm not any religion.

Friend:  You mean your not from the U.S.?

Daughter:  Huh?

Friend:  If your no religion then that means your an aethist

Daughter:  I do believe in God

Friend:  Then your a Christian

Daughter:  Do you believe in Ghosts?

Friend:  No

Daughter:  Why?  I do?

Friend:  Then your not a Christian

Ok - Is she or isn't she?  That's my question.  I guess that's for her to determine.  Hey - maybe she's a ghost.

Ha! I was just drafting a future post that touches on this. Did you know that the original  root meaning of pagan is "country dweller?" It has been corrupted to mean something negative.

Maybe she could say something like...I'm not affiliated with any organized religion.  I follow the teachings of Jesus but not the dogma of religion?

Interesting conversation

Oh Lord Chris, I forgot to tell you mrB at my work, (the one who lives near you) asked me to tell you if you find his sneaker to send it back over!

As for the religion thing, I've always thought the best way to deflect questions I don't want to answer is to ask back - "why do you want to know?" in a nice, merely curious, tone.

I tell my kids to just say they're the religion I was brought up, Unitarian- most people around here don't know what it is & it usually shuts them up- the ones who know what it is know we're a bunch of free-thinkers & it's useless to try to convert us, which seems to be what most people who ask are asking for in the first place!

OMG but ins't Ruby getting big!? If he keeps growing like that; watch out he's libable to bring home someone's car for goodness sakes.

As for the conversation with Sam and her friend; I think it important that she states from the start that she loves God with all her heart (me too) but that Life is her religion. It works for me because it is the truth. It may be hard for her young friends to grasp though, so maybe Colleen's or Becky's ideas are the way to go.

BTW; the color of your blog is white when I use Firefox (the only one I can use to comment). When I use Explorer; the color is still the pinkish color that it used to be. Weird; but these days Tripod is weird.

I have two Golden Retrievers that do the same thing, but in my house.  Nothing says hello like a Golden Retriever bringing my bra to the door when the mail person is delivering a package! :)

 Michele sent me this morning!

LOL at your dog.  Have you ever had to return anything that she's "lifted." (like the UPS box.)

I'm here from Michele's today.  Glad I stopped by.  :)

I loved the title of this post and chuckled at the recreation of your daughter's conversation at school.  Some kids are better off raising themselves I think. lol

Interesting conversation with your child's friend. I guess nobody ever clued her into the fact that more people believe in God who are not Christian (Muslims) than that are. And what about us Jews?

The dog problem... have you informed your neighbors so they know where to look when their stuff is missing? Too freaking funny!
