Snow and

Sami is snowed out of school today, as a snow storm has begun this morning!  Yeah…  Finally!  They, being the forecasters, aren’t sure how much we are due.  I have heard conflicting reports and everything from 1 inch to 5 inches.  I know this doesn’t sound like a lot, and it doesn’t really for me either being from Boston and all, but up in these mountains winter weather is a big deal!  The area seems to paralyze when snow & ice are even mentioned.  There is no calm before the storm.  School closes before flakes even begin and grocery stores are filled to the max with panicking people.  Me… Of course, I love it!  I look out at the winter wonderland and just can’t begin to describe the feelings I get.  To me, the whole world is just stopped and covered in a blanket!

The ice storm I posted about, the week before last, wasn’t too much of a problem.  We did get quite a bit of ice, but they were able to get it cleaned up faster than usual, it seemed.  We lost power for about 4 hours but we lost it at about 10:30 pm – so I read in bed for about an hour and then fell right to sleep.  Samantha had a friend spend that night and they managed to get to bed earlier than normal too.  It’s kind of scary how we relay so heavily on electricity.

Been forever and a day since I posted, I know it….  I haven’t even visited my own blog or anyone else’s for that matter.  Got to get back on top of things.  I have two Blog Fodders to catch up on and I plan to do both at the same time, but not right now.

If anything mechanical is going to happen, it’s going to happen to me this week, let me tell you.  Last Monday my car decided it only wanted to run on three of its six cylinders.  How dare it!  Kevin bought the part to fix it mid-week because it literally would only go about 15 mph up hill, an as mentioned earlier, I live in the mountains and its all hills!  The part Kevin bought wasn’t the problem and I was kind of panicking that the engine was going out, but he managed to get it fixed this weekend.  We returned the part it wasn’t and spent another 75.00 to get the part that was.

I have electric heat upstairs and oil heat downstairs, which keeps things quite interesting and warm around here!  Oil prices went down and I saved 80.00 from the last time I added oil.  Monday it only cost me 300.00 for 150 gallons.  Then my furnace dies…. about 2 hours after adding the oil.  The darn thing decides it’s had enough.  The oil company man came back over Tuesday and rigged it to work for a day while we awaited a part it needed and yesterday they fixed it right up!

Tuesday night we were snuggly warm with heat both upstairs and down when the heat pump upstairs decides it wants to die as well.  I have not yet addressed this issue.  Luckily I now have two manual electric radiator looking heaters and heat rises!
